An establishing shot of the allied camp. Most of my work on these shots was taking the matte painting work being done by an external studio and doing extensive paintovers to provide Art Direction.
Another view of the camp, the external studio was having difficulty finding the right look for the shots and these mocked comps with paintovers helped guide them.
Another view the studio was struggling to get to look right. They were relying too much on the 3d renders which weren't quite getting the right shadows and look considering the time of day.
A view of one of the Nazi airbases, most of the shots were pretty close detail and content wise, they just needed a little bit of help removing repetition and improving the lighting to pick out details. I also painted an interactive lighting pass for a large explosion that happens center frame.
In this shot I took elements from other shots and models to build out the scene. In the final film a large anti aircraft gun sits center frame in the foreground and is blown up by the Redtails.
Concept sketch for a crash sequence when one of the Redtails pilots meets a tragic end.
